Professional Development: Outside-Academia Career Panel

This event is offered by the Biological Sciences Student Organization. This career event will feature a panel of invited guests, including recent science graduates, Notre Dame alumni, who have been successful outside “traditional” academic careers. The panelists will cover several areas, including entrepreneurship, research, consulting, and law. A networking social will follow the panel session.

The confirmed speakers are:

  • Dr. Sarah Bowden (consulting/contract research): Dr. Bowden received her PhD in infectious disease modeling in 2016 from the University of Georgia. She did a postdoc at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem, and is now doing contract work for the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA.
  • Dr. Ryan Flaherty (law): Dr. Flaherty is a Notre Dame alumni and received his PhD in chemistry in 2016. He now works as a Patent Agent with Price Heneveld LLP in Grand Rapids, MI.
  • Matthew Krusen (industry): Mr. Krusen is a Notre Dame alumni and received his MS in biochemistry in 2016. He now works for Aldevron, a biotech company in Fargo, SD.
  • James Thompson (entrepreneurship): Mr. Thompson received a MS in biology in 1999 from Utah State University and has 10 years experience in technology development and business. He is now the Associate Vice President for Innovation Park in South Bend, IN.
