Faculty Positions in the Department of Biological Sciences

The Department of Biological Sciences (http://biology.nd.edu/) in the College of Science (http://science.nd.edu/) at the University of Notre Dame solicits applications for 4 new faculty positions to commence in August 2009. These searches are part of a broad university initiative to expand interdisciplinary scholarship in the life sciences that engages multiple departments and colleges at Notre Dame. Major new efforts are being developed in the areas of global health, biophysics, imaging, cancer biology, neurobiology, and the environment, which include substantial faculty and infrastructural growth. In all cases, new faculty members are expected to initiate and maintain vigorous extramurally-funded research programs and to be effective teachers at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. Applications for any of the positions below will be accepted until December 1, 2008, although review of applications will commence immediately.
Endowed Faculty Chair in Cancer Biology. The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for the Coleman Chair in Cancer Biology at the Full Professor rank. Applicants must demonstrate an exceptional record of research accomplishment based on publications, national/international recognition, and extramural funding. We seek an outstanding scientist engaged in basic or translational cancer research. Areas of emphasis for recruitment include animal models of cancer, molecular oncology, cell signaling in cancer initiation and metastasis, cancer genetics, tumor microenvironment, and cancer therapeutics. Faculty Position in Cell Biology. The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position in the area of cell biology at the assistant professor level, although exceptional mid-career candidates will also be considered. Candidates with research expertise that complements existing strengths in cancer biology, the cytoskeleton and cell division, neuroscience, vision, and cell signaling are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will demonstrate a solid track record in publications and collaborative research. Assistant/Associate Professor of Genomics. The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications at the Assistant or Associate professorial rank. We seek candidates using whole-genome, integrative approaches to study fundamental biological and evolutionary processes. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous externally funded research program that will compliment an active interdisciplinary research community with foci in the genetics, functional genomics, evolution, and ecology of parasites and pathogens, their insect vectors, and vertebrate hosts. Assistant/Associate Professor of Infectious Disease. The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications at the Assistant or Associate Professor level for an individual working on an infectious disease pathogen or pathogen vector of importance in the area of global health. The candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent and a demonstrated record of research and teaching excellence. Individuals with expertise in any area involving the biology of a human pathogen, pathogen vector, or the response of the human host to infection, particularly those with cross-disciplinary research programs, are encouraged to apply.
