Grieco In FieldJohn P. Grieco, Ph.D. in the field working.

The Achee/Grieco lab is one of few labs at the University of Notre Dame that conducts extensive research in the field. The lab is currently involved in multidisciplinary research program with a focus on the biology, ecology and transmission dynamics of vector-borne illness and vector behavior research related to the epidemiology and control of arthropod-borne diseases, including evaluation of vector ecology, habitat management and adult control strategies, disease risk modeling using GIS and remote sensing technologies, and evaluation of chemical actions against vector behaviors.

The lab has an international presence, having several ongoing collaborations in Belize, Indonesia, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, South Korea, Suriname, Tanzania and Thailand. With a combined 40+ years of experience, Nicole L. Achee, Ph.D. and John P. Grieco, Ph.D. are committed to understanding disease vectors in order to contribute to the fight against vector-borne diseases in communities all around the world.

When not traveling to field sites and international meetings, John and Nicole spend extensive time mentoring and teaching at the University of Notre Dame. They enjoy interacting, mentoring, and engaging in academic conversations with undergraduates and Masters in Global Health students at the Eck Institute for Global Health.

With joint appointment as faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences and the Eck Institute for Global Health, Nicole and John bring their expertise to the University of Notre Dame and are excited to educate the next generation of scientists.

John and Nicole welcome all questions and inquires on their research.
Please do not hesitate to contact the lab for further information.
