Biography
Kate Ruley Haase’s research interests intertwine at the intersection of the brain, gut, and microbiome in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). With a B.S. in Biology and Psychology (Neuroscience!), Kate aims to uncover the mysteries overshadowing these complex systems by using cutting-edge imaging techniques, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, as well as in vivo mouse models. Currently Kate pursues research projects which answer some of the following questions: How do different innate lymphoid cell types affect IBD? What are the effects of high-fat and high-sugar diets, including Western-style diets, on mice with Crohn’s disease or obesity phenotypes? Kate hopes answering these questions will help improve the quality of life of those suffering from IBD/obesity and inform gastroenterologists on more effective treatments.
