Assistant Professor Positions: Multiple Early Career Faculty Positions in Ecology
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for multiple, tenure-track assistant professor positions that will enhance existing institutional excellence in ecology. We are searching broadly for creative and collaborative individuals (1) working at any spatial scale, from local to global, in any system, (2) studying any level of biological organization, from genes to ecosystems, and (3) using any mode of inference, from empirical to theoretical. Applicants should demonstrate research excellence that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries; ongoing growth in the department will emphasize new hires that use quantitative and/or integrative approaches to study ecological processes.
Postdoctoral experience is desirable in applicants. Successful candidates will engage with and benefit from UNDERC, Notre Dame’s 8000-acre environmental field station and home to NEON’s Great Lakes domain, superb on-campus chemical and genomic analytical facilities, an experimental research facility located close to campus, cross-disciplinary interactions through multiple centers and institutes including the Environmental Change Initiative, and a unique Interdisciplinary Graduate Training Program in Environment and Society.

Assistant Professor of the Practice in Bioinformatics
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame seeks a broadly trained and innovative bioinformatician at the Assistant Professor of the Practice level to contribute to service in the Genomics and Bioinformatics Core Facility (GBCF), and to teach courses and workshops in computation and genomics. This non-tenure track position is available starting fall semester 2025, and is renewable and expected to be a long-term, continuing position with opportunities for promotion.
The successful candidate will join a vigorous and growing genomics community anchored by the Department of Biological Sciences and distributed across the Colleges of Science and Engineering. The GBCF is a central component of this community with a mission to facilitate genomics research on the Notre Dame campus. The successful candidate will work closely with the GBCF staff to provide bioinformatic and computational consultation, expertise, and infrastructure to support faculty research. This role includes developing working relationships with faculty, exploring possible avenues for novel bioinformatics research, as well as providing basic bioinformatics services and project consultation. The successful candidate will also develop and deliver courses and workshops to enhance the educational infrastructure in bioinformatics based on departmental needs and the applicant’s area of expertise. Courses may range from basic computation literacy to advanced undergraduate/graduate level genomics analysis. While this position will be service and teaching oriented, the candidate will also have opportunities to engage in collaborative and independent research.
Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in biological sciences, computer science, or related field and experience teaching bioinformatics. Excellent communication skills, and familiarity with the analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data are required. The successful candidate will have experience with one or more of the following areas of analysis: epigenomics, proteomics, genome assembly, population genomics, microbial diversity, comparative phylogenomics, GWAS, single-cell and spatial genomics, and/or network analysis. Strong candidates will also have a solid understanding of data management practices, common software handling paradigms (e.g. conda, modules, containers), Linux command line, common genomic data formats (gff, vcf, sam, etc). Broad experience troubleshooting genomic analysis and software and experience with permissions (both unix and ACLs) will be advantageous. Strong candidates will also have experience teaching computational biology or bioinformatics in the classroom or in workshops.

Endowed Director of the Boler-Parseghian Center for Rare and Neglected Diseases
The College of Science at the University of Notre Dame seeks a visionary leader to serve as the James C. Parsons and Carrie Ann Quinn Director of the Boler-Parseghian Center for Rare and Neglected Diseases (CRND) (https://crnd.nd.edu/ ). The Director will be appointed as a tenured professor in the Department of Biological Sciences (https://biology.nd.edu/), though the search committee can consider appointments in other departments. The Boler-Parseghian Center for Rare and Neglected Diseases places patients and their families at the core of all their efforts. Members of the center focus on both basic and translational research and work with families affected by rare diseases to combine studies of patient data and tissue with fundamental biological research in order to better understand disease, identify molecular targets, and develop new diagnostics and treatments.

Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor in Biological Sciences
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame seeks a broadly-trained and innovative teaching colleague to contribute to our Introductory Biology sequence. Candidates with a background in evolution, organismal biology, or plant biology will be particularly suited to complement the existing team. The position is a renewable 12-month, non-tenure track appointment starting fall semester 2025, and is expected to be a long-term continuing position with opportunities for promotion.
Our novel Introductory Biology sequence was designed using Vision and Change principles. Consequently, the sequence integrates across levels of biology, and uses student-centered and inclusive pedagogical approaches. Within our Introductory Biology sequence, successful candidates would deliver a semester-long, course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) laboratory. They will also join a team of instructors in either: 1) an integrative biology lecture course, or 2) a lab course that provides training in field/lab techniques needed to support research experimentation. While the position will primarily focus on teaching, we also seek candidates with scholarship in discipline-based education and/or commitments to provide research experiences for undergraduates.
Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must possess a graduate degree in an area of the life sciences and should be broadly trained in biology. The candidate should have an interest and commitment to teaching first-year biology students, with experience teaching at the collegiate level using student-centered, active learning strategies. Lastly, the candidate should have significant research experience to provide mentorship in a course-based research format.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate would have a Ph.D., and have skills and experience in education assessment and/or research-based laboratory courses.
