Postdocs

We welcome your interest in the Department of Biological Sciences for postdoctoral studies. Postdoctoral scholars in the department have access to outstanding faculty, cutting-edge research infrastructure, and various avenues for career development. Many faculty lead their disciplines by serving as officers of societies, on journal editorial boards, study sections, scientific advisory boards and as consultants for various organizations. Moreover, several faculty are recipients of prestigious awards and elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Research in the department spans the wide spectrum of the life sciences—from cells and organs to whole organisms and ecosystems. This uncommon level of wide-ranging yet integrative biological inquiry provides an extraordinary environment for learning, innovation and collaboration.

We invite you to contact our faculty members directly to discuss your specific research interests as a postdoctoral scholar and find out more about open post-doctoral positions. All postdoctoral scholars in the Department Biological Sciences are members of Notre Dame’s Postdoctoral Network, through the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars. The office provides opportunities for campus-wide networking, resources for moving to and living in South Bend and long-term career planning. Our focus is to help you become a successful scientific professional, and assist you in connecting with the abundant intellectual and interdisciplinary resources available across campus.

There are no teaching requirements for postdoctoral research fellows, however if you are interested in this particular aspect of training for future careers in academia, excellent resources are available through the Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning. In addition, the department offers Teaching Apprenticeships and Certifications in the Life Sciences.

Thank you for your interest.
